TECHNICAL WRITING PHOTO & VIDEO MEDIA & DESIGN
ABOUT
I earned my B.S. Degree in News-Editorial Journalism at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and was named newspaper photographer of the year in 1990.
I started fighting wildfires in 1988, working for Los Padres Crew 3 (Santa Lucia) and Crew 4 (Los Padres Hot Shots), before becoming an Alaska Smokejumper for 17 years. In 2018, I earned a graduate certificate in technical communications from Boise State University. Combining visual media, dramatic photos, illustrations and well-crafted text is the key to effective digital and print communication, and I work to convey purposeful messages.
Today I work as a public information officer on larger fires, communicating with team leaders, the media and the public, documenting fire operations with photography, video, and writing. I serve as a task force leader on the fireline, where I supervise hand crews, engine crews, and heavy equipment.
I'm a facilitative instructor for wildland firefighting training courses and I'm available by request. My wildland firefighting photography website www.spotfireimages.com is a collection of 5,000-plus images spanning my 30 wildfire seasons, and my wildfire photos are widely published.
I'm available to help you with your project, whether your goal is a printed work, digital media products, or both. Let's email or talk.
